E.g. 3 Days Added to Visitor Stays at Historic Museum Sites in Outback Queensland “…we now have a tourist trail which keeps our visitors in town for three days or more…”

I was the Tourism Coordinator for Bulloo Shire in far western Queensland from 2017 – 2019, and I had the pleasure of working with Gavin Crombie from Digital Frontier. Gavin transformed our tourism assets into an extraordinary interactive and storytelling display that truly brought our history to life. Despite the extreme challenges posed by our remote location, harsh climate, and shortage of qualified tradespeople, Gavin’s dedication and perseverance shone through.
Gavin tackled every obstacle head-on, from troubleshooting to hands-on installation, going above and beyond to ensure the successful delivery of these remarkable assets. Today, they continue to captivate visitors in Thargomindah, withstanding extreme temperatures, dust storms, and unexpected flooding.
The project involved creating holograms, recording actors, and scripting our history to craft an engaging narrative. With solar-powered installations and limited internet connectivity, the technical and logistical challenges were immense. Yet, Gavin’s problem-solving skills and commitment were nothing short of epic.
Gavin is not only a skilled professional but also a genuinely kind-hearted, fair, and generous individual who listens and strives to exceed expectations. His work has left a lasting impact on the community, and I highly recommend him.
Gavin and his Team, worked with us to roll out an ambitious VR program across a number of Visitor Centre outlets across Queensland. We told him what we needed and he came up with the solutions, a tall order, given we needed techs and filmmakers to access all parts of the State in a limited time frame – with limited budget.
When we encountered problems, which you always do with this type of venture, Gavin sorted it out in a timely manner.
If you travel across Queensland and drop into a Visitor Information Centre you may see one of the bright yellow stands with the VR equipment attached, have a look, you’ll be impressed.
Gavin and his team created our film for our Quilpeta Night Show and the Quilpie Visitor Information Centre. Gavin was able to create a magical script and film from information and history we provided that has captivated every visitor to the Show. Gavin was and is so easy and professional to work with and we look forward to working with him on future projects.
I am the Tourism and Marketing Coordinator for the Bulloo Shire Council. The displays, including holograms, projections, documentaries and animatronic mannequins that Gavin and his team created for us have continued over the years to impress every one of our visitors. As our tours are self-guided people seem to stay in town longer, do them at their own pace and therefore end up staying another night or two.
Gavin worked against the odds with our harsh summers and dusty conditions however our displays are still responding every time they are activated. I would work with Gavin again without hesitation as he is very professional and deals with any problems quickly and calmly. A genuinely nice guy with a great love of Outback QLD.
